ANTEA Cement donates blood for children with thalassemia

ANTEA Cement in cooperation with the Red Cross Albania organized a blood donation campaign for children suffering from thalassemia at the premises of the plant. Approximately 30% of ANTEA’s staff which is around 60 persons participated in this important campaign which aims to save the lives of thalassemia suffering children. Thalassemia is a form of inherited blood disorder caused by variant or missing genes that affect how the body makes hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. People with thalassemia make less hemoglobin and have fewer circulating red blood cells than normal, which results in mild or severe anemia.
ANTEA currently has its own blood bank and employees can use it for their own benefit as well as for their families’ emergencies. The purpose of this campaign was not only to invite employees to help these children but also raise awareness about important facts of blood donation which is a very safely conducted process where the amount of blood donated by one person can save up to three lives.
